The goal of networking is to connect with like minded people within and around our profession. When we meet others we exchange ideas, share experiences and communicate about our passions and goals. In order to put our best foot forward we must be comfortable with ourselves, reflect well on our experiences, know how we have grown, where we want to go and how we want to get there. Showing a genuine interest in people we meet, remembering names, positions and finding something shared in common to talk about helps build relationships. I also think that demonstrating good character and judgement at all times is essential. This way we will be remembered for who we truly are and earn the respect of our professional colleagues. We should also stay in touch and joining networking sites can help us do that. Some methods for meeting people that have worked for me have been job fairs, workshops, coaching sports, running clubs and additional classes as well as meeting through already established connections. If you don't have any affiliation with the area because you are new then volunteer to help with something related to your interests and contribute.
